“Walking in Missional Provision”   (1 Kings 17)

  • Some believe that the concept of Christian mission originated with the church; when in actuality the concept originated in the heart of the Father!          (Genesis 3:15; 12:1-4; John 3:16-17; Exodus 3:10; Galatians 4:4-6)
  • Our Father God is a ‘sending’ God and is ‘missional’ in every sense!
    • The Father sent the Son. (Genesis 3:15; John 1:14; 3:16-17; Luke 19:10)
    • The Son sent the disciples out into the world. (Luke 9:1-6; 10:1-12)
    • The Father and the Son sent the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:8; John 16:7-8)
    • The disciples sent out other disciples. (Acts 13:2-3)
    • We’re supposed to go out and make other disciples to send! (Matthew 28:18)
  • God didn’t first form the church and then assign it a mission, but rather He formed the church FOR the mission! (John 3:16-17; Matthew 28:18-20)
  • As a ‘missional God, our God is the ultimate source of missional provision! (Psalm 50:10; Luke 10:4-8; 11:13; 22:35; John 16:7-8; Acts 1:8; 2:4; Psalm 23:5)
  • Missional provision provides the context to fuel our missional prayers, even when the fruition of those prayers may appear to adversely affect us!        (James 5:17-18; Luke 22:41-42; Acts 20:22; Philippians 3:7-11)
  • In missional provision, God’s grace is often revealed in the form of ‘missional limitations’ that are intended for our good and the good of those around us! (1 Kings 17:3; 19:5-9; Psalm 23:2-3; 1 Samuel 24:7; Matthew 4:1-11)
  • While God’s ‘missional context of provision may change, His ‘missional intentions never do! (1 Kings 17:4-6; Mark 8:7; Genesis 50:20-21)
  • When God dries up our missional brook it’s often because He’s got expanded mission in mind!  (1 Kings 17:7-8; Exodus 3:10; Joshua 5:12; Acts 9:3-5, 15)
  • Missional miracles occur while on mission in response to missional problems’! (1 Kings 17:21-22; Exodus 14; Joshua 3:15-17; Acts 9:36-41)
  • Where may God be drying up your missional brook so that He can launch you out on expanded mission?  And where is God implementing His gracious limitations in your life that are intended for your good and those around you?  Are you praying for it?  Are you living it
